Colt Park, Urban park in Hartford, Connecticut
Colt Park is a large green space in Hartford that features multiple sports fields, two swimming pools, basketball courts, and walking paths throughout landscaped grounds. The various facilities spread across the property offer space for different activities and recreation.
Elizabeth Hart Jarvis Colt donated the property to Hartford in 1905, having been part of the former Armsmear Estate of industrialist Samuel Colt. This gift shaped the land's transformation into a public recreational space.
The Samuel Colt Monument displays four bronze figures of the inventor at different stages of his life, including as a young sailor. These depictions shape how visitors experience and remember the space.
The grounds are open from sunrise to sunset and provide access to soccer fields, baseball diamonds, handball courts, and playgrounds. Visitors will find the paths easy to navigate and conditions most favorable during warmer months.
Field number nine within the park bears the name of Hartford native Johnny Taylor, who played in the Negro Baseball League. This naming preserves the story of an important chapter in American baseball history.
