Allen House, Colonial dwelling in Alamance County, United States
Allen House is a two-story residential building constructed with hewn logs, a gable roof, and stone foundation near Burlington. The structure now sits on the grounds of Alamance Battleground State Historic Site.
The building was constructed in 1782 by John Allen and demonstrates the construction methods of early American settlement in this area. It was relocated to its current location in 1966.
The house demonstrates how settlers in this region lived during the late 1700s and what building methods they relied on. Visitors can observe the traditional craftsmanship that was common to the period.
The house is located southwest of Burlington along Route 1, off SC 62. It is best visited as part of a trip to the surrounding Alamance Battleground State Historic Site.
The original building was moved to its current location in the 1960s to preserve it from destruction. This relocation was an important step in saving this early colonial structure for future generations.
