Eli Smallwood House

The Eli Smallwood House is a brick building with two and a half stories and carefully carved ornaments on the main cornice, porches, and dormer windows in New Bern. The structure shows typical features of the Federal style with well-crafted brickwork and decorative elements that reflect the wealth of its original owner.

The house was built in 1810 by carpenter Asa King and later became the home of merchant and shipowner Eli Smallwood. Following that period, it served as a residence for several important figures in the local community and was later recognized for its historical architecture.
