Church Street School is a two-story, T-shaped brick school built in 1935–1937 in Thomasville for African-American students. It is in the Colonial Revival style, with a two-story auditorium projecting from the rear of the main building. Two-story wings and a gymnasium were added in 1951.

The school building was constructed during the expansion of public education in rural areas of North Carolina. It documents the growth of educational opportunities in the region and was later added to the National Register of Historic Places for its architectural and historical importance.

Church Street School was built for African-American students in Thomasville, and some of its construction funding came from the Public Works Administration, a New Deal agency. The 1951 two-story wings and gymnasium flanking the original T-shaped brick building show how the school was enlarged as enrollment grew.

The building sits in an easily accessible location in downtown Thomasville and is visible from public streets. Visitors should know that it is a protected historic structure and access may be limited to viewing it from outside.

Some of the construction money came from the Public Works Administration, a New Deal agency that helped fund public buildings in the 1930s. The school was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990.
