The house was built in 1918 for John Hampton Adams, a businessman who built a major hosiery company with his wife Elizabeth. After the family moved out in 1931, it served various purposes including as a funeral home and narrowly escaped demolition in 1997 before being converted into a boutique inn in the early 2000s.
