Star Apartments is a six-story, 95,000-square-foot residential complex on Skid Row in Los Angeles. It holds 102 apartments averaging 350 square feet, built as prefabricated wood-frame units around a cantilevered frame. The ground level retains an existing single-story commercial structure, and the upper floors are clad in stucco-style coating.

The Skid Row Housing Trust developed the Star Apartments as its third project with Michael Maltzan Architecture, after the Rainbow and New Carver Apartments. Financing came partly from low-income housing tax credit equity provided by the National Equity Fund and Bank of America. Rather than raze the lot, the architects kept its existing single-story commercial structure and built the six-story complex above it. The building opened in October 2014 and received LEED Platinum certification in August 2015.

The building serves as a home for people moving away from homelessness and rebuilding their lives. They find not only apartments but also spaces dedicated to health services and community programs within the same structure.

The building is located near public transportation and accessible from the street. Keep in mind this is a residential facility for residents, so access to certain areas may be limited.

Each of the 102 apartments was built as a self-contained wood-frame unit in Boise, Idaho, by Guerdon Enterprises, then shipped to Los Angeles and lifted by crane onto the cantilevered frame. The units were later wrapped in protective material and unified with a stucco-style coating. Installing them raised construction costs to about $40 million.
