Cascade Plantation

Cascade Plantation is a two-story residence with five window bays across its front and brick chimneys on each gable end. The exterior is covered in weatherboard and follows the Federal architectural style built in the 1830s.

The house was built in the 1830s as a residence for a wealthy family in the Eden area. Later, Thomas Benton Fitzgerald, founder of Dan River Inc., owned the property from 1897 to 1916 and shaped the region's industrial growth.

The house shows how wealthy landowners in North Carolina lived and designed their homes before the Civil War. The rooms and their layout reflect the social divisions of that time period.

The property is located northeast of Eden near NC 770 and spans about 6 acres. Access is straightforward since the road passes nearby and makes it easy to locate.

The house features pairs of brick chimneys positioned on each gable end, a distinctive Federal design element. This architectural detail defines the building's appearance and is characteristic of North Carolina's regional style.
