Brookdale Library occupies a 53,155-square-foot building at 6125 Shingle Creek Parkway, expanded in 2002 from an original 31,400 square feet. Its interior is arranged in information neighborhoods that mix print collections with technology, worktables, and chairs, and daylight enters through large windows. The rotunda holds Ray King's glass sculpture Northern Cascade, while TivoliToo's Readalot the Dragon and Christopher T. Tully's 30-foot Jungle Animals Climbing serve young readers.

Brooklyn Center's first library opened on December 29, 1965, at 5601 Osseo Road, built with $60,000 from the federal Library Services and Construction Act and $190,000 in village bonds. The county bought it in January 1969, and the branch moved to 6125 Shingle Creek Parkway in August 1981. A renovation begun in May 2002 expanded the building to 53,155 square feet.

The library maintains collections in Hmong, Laotian, Russian, Somali, Spanish, and Vietnamese, serving the diverse communities within Brooklyn Center. These multilingual resources ensure that residents from different backgrounds can access materials in their preferred languages.
