Sunset Theater, Movie theater in Asheboro, United States.
The Sunset Theater is a two-story movie house in Asheboro featuring Spanish Colonial Revival design with stuccoed brick walls and distinctive roofline. The auditorium inside seats roughly 400 people and hosts a variety of live performances and film screenings.
The building was designed in 1929 by the architectural firm Benton & Benton and constructed by local builder S.E. Trogden. It later earned a place on the National Register of Historic Places, recognizing its architectural value to the region.
For decades, this theater served as the heart of Asheboro's social life, drawing crowds from across the town. Today it continues to function as a gathering space where the community experiences entertainment together.
The theater sits on Sunset Avenue in downtown Asheboro and is easy to reach on foot. Check ahead for current showtimes and events, as the schedule changes throughout the year.
The city of Asheboro acquired the theater in 2005 to preserve it as a local cultural landmark. This purchase saved the building from deterioration and restored it to active use in the downtown community.
