Robert Cleveland Log House
Robert Cleveland Log House, Heritage log house in Wilkesboro, North Carolina, United States.
The Robert Cleveland Log House is a historic wood cabin with two separate log sections and stone chimneys on the exterior. The structure rests on an uneven stone foundation and displays the typical construction style of early American frontier settlements.
The cabin was built around 1780 by Captain Robert Cleveland, a veteran of the Revolutionary War. It was relocated to the Wilkes Heritage Museum in 1986 to make it accessible to the public.
The house demonstrates frontier building methods that settlers used in this region long ago. The way the logs fit together and how the spaces are arranged becomes clear as soon as you step inside.
The cabin is located today on the grounds of the Wilkes Heritage Museum and can be visited on guided tours. Visitors should take time to explore the rooms and pay attention to the craftsmanship details throughout.
This is the oldest surviving residential building in Wilkes County, dating from an era when such structures quickly disappeared. The condition of the original details offers a rare glimpse into the lives of frontier pioneers.
