Lone Chimney Lake, body of water
Lone Chimney Lake is a reservoir in Oklahoma covering about 550 acres with a long shoreline. The water is surrounded by open land, trees, and grass, creating a simple and accessible landscape.
The lake was built in 1980 to control regional flooding and store water for nearby communities. The Lower Black Bear Creek Watershed Dam 19M that created it is part of a system of nineteen dams designed to slow floodwaters.
There are no stores or facilities directly at the lake, so visitors should arrive with water and food supplies. Weekdays tend to be quiet, making this an ideal time for a peaceful visit.
The lake faces significant water level fluctuations during dry periods, nearly emptying in 2006 and dropping several feet below normal in 2012. Heavy rains play a crucial role in replenishing the reservoir when drought conditions ease.
