Bates-Morse Mountain

Bates-Morse Mountain is a 600-acre conservation area with salt marshes, dense Maine woods, and rivermouth areas. The terrain rises to 928 feet (283 m) and combines several natural habitats in one location.

This land was acquired through partnership between Bates College and the St. John family and is now managed by a dedicated conservation organization. The collaboration made it possible to protect the area for the future.

More than 1,000 regional students use this area each year for environmental learning and outdoor activities. The place serves as an important teaching ground for the local community and its younger members.

The area is home to threatened bird species like piping plovers and several rare plant and lichen species. These organisms are actively protected from extinction through managed conservation efforts.
