Lake Chippewa, artificial lake in northwestern Wisconsin, United States

Lake Chippewa is a large reservoir in northwestern Wisconsin created by damming the East and West Forks of the Chippewa River. The water reaches depths of nearly 90 feet in some areas, and the shoreline is lined with gently rising hills, forests, and scattered cabins.

Native Americans originally used the area for fishing and gathering food before it was converted into a reservoir. Later, logging became prominent in the region, with boats and rafts carrying timber to market while dam operations regulated water levels to support this timber traffic.

The lake is known locally as the Chippewa Flowage, a name reflecting its expansive size and the water movement through the region. This name is used by residents and visitors who have spent time fishing or boating on these waters.

The calm water is well suited for boat trips and is accessible at several small docks scattered along the shoreline. Nearby communities offer boat rentals, small cafes, and parks as practical services for visitors.

The lake contains floating peat bogs, with the largest being the Forty-Acre Bog that drifts slowly across the surface. This unusual natural feature adds a surprising element to the water that most visitors do not expect.
