Pegasus and Dragon is a large bronze figure at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach. The white winged horse rears up against a greenish dragon that coils beneath it and wraps around the base.
Work began in 2013 through a German-Chinese partnership to manage the casting process at such scale. Assembly was completed in 2014 bringing together components weighing many tons.
The sculpture shows the winged horse from Greek mythology battling a fire-breathing dragon beneath its hooves. After dark the figure comes to life as water sprays from the dragon's mouth and real flames flicker.
Free access at the racetrack allows viewing during opening hours. After dark regular evening presentations with music and special effects take place.
The base conceals an interior framework of steel that carries the weight. The surface was treated with patina after casting to create the white of the horse and the green of the dragon.
