Hillcrest Veterans Square, Urban park in Fresh Meadows, Queens, United States

Hillcrest Veterans Square is a triangular public park in Fresh Meadows, Queens. Its centerpiece is a curved granite monument on a concrete base, carved with "AMERICAN LEGION" and "LONG ISLAND" and set with a bronze plaque honoring local World War II servicemen. A flagpole and a red maple tree stand in the park.

Hillcrest Post No. 1078 of the American Legion erected the square's first veterans monument. In 2005 it was replaced by a more detailed design that kept the original plaque and added lines from Moina Michael's poem "We Shall Keep the Faith". The monument's carved names include John Angell and the date November 1918.

The monument displays verses from Moina Michael's poem 'We Shall Keep the Faith' and features Flanders poppies as remembrance symbols. These elements connect the community to a wider tradition of honoring those who served.

The square sits at the junction where Fresh Meadows meets Hillcrest, a triangular island of paving and planting rather than an enclosed garden. Approach it on foot from the surrounding residential streets; there is no gate or opening time to plan around. The monument, flagpole and red maple stand close together, so the whole space can be seen in a few minutes.

The 2005 monument carries over the plaque from the original one and adds lines from Moina Michael's poem "We Shall Keep the Faith", whose image of poppies growing in Flanders Fields led to the poppy becoming a remembrance flower for the First World War. The stone also names John Angell and November 1918.
