Blue Ridge Swim Club, Historic swimming pool in Ivy, United States
Blue Ridge Swim Club is a swimming facility in Ivy, Albemarle County, featuring a concrete pool approximately 100 yards long and 10 yards wide. The water depth varies from about 30 inches to 10 feet, allowing swimmers of different abilities to use the same facility.
The facility was built in 1913 as part of a boys' camp and ranks among the oldest outdoor swimming places still in use in Virginia. Over the decades, it evolved from a camp setting into a family-oriented swimming club.
The club takes its name from the Blue Ridge Mountains that dominate the surrounding landscape. It serves as a gathering place for local families who return here year after year during the warm season.
The facility operates during summer months from June through August when swimming conditions are best. Visitors should note that weekend days tend to be the most active times, and the setting remains modest and informal.
Water comes from underground springs beneath the property and requires less chlorine treatment than typical public pools. This natural water system has been a defining feature of the site since its creation.
