The twenty-three room Peirce Mansion stands at 2901 Jackson Street, constructed from South Dakota quartzite with intricate woodwork and a grand staircase.
John Peirce built the mansion in 1893 for $80,000, but lost his fortune during the national depression and organized a lottery to sell it in 1900.
The mansion transformed from a private residence to the Sioux City Public Museum in 1961, displaying regional history artifacts until 2011.
The first floor offers wheelchair access, and the mansion opens for quarterly public events with guided tours through Victorian-era furnished rooms.
The property includes a third-floor ballroom where the Martin family hosted social gatherings between 1928 and 1946 during their ownership period.
