Storey Gymnasium, School gymnasium in Cheyenne, United States.
Storey Gymnasium is a two-story brick gymnasium on the Central High School campus measuring 240 feet by 180 feet (73 by 55 meters). The building features horizontal lines with glass block windows in the upper section, and the central area contains a basketball court with seating for 4,500 spectators.
The building was constructed in 1953 on the Central High School campus and originally included facilities for ROTC programs such as an armory, rifle range, and drill halls. It was named after school trustee William Storey, who played a key role in the school's development.
After 1965, the gymnasium served both high schools as a shared venue for sporting events, circuses, and graduation ceremonies. The space became central to school life and community celebrations in the city.
The interior is easy to navigate, with the main attractions concentrated in the central hall and clear signage throughout. The seating areas feature newer black seats installed during renovations in 2016, offering modern comfort for event attendance.
Architect Frederic Hutchinson Porter designed the structure, which was built by Loren Hancock. Construction costs reached approximately 646,600 dollars, a substantial sum for a school project in the 1950s.
