Tower 280, Office and residential building in downtown Rochester, United States.
Tower 280 is an 18-story office and residential building in downtown Rochester standing 251 feet (76 meters) tall. The structure houses apartments, office spaces, and retail shops on its lower floors, served by eight elevators.
The building was originally constructed in 1962 as Midtown Tower within the Midtown Plaza shopping center. When the mall was later demolished, the structure retained its steel frame and was eventually renovated.
Today the building blends residential units, office spaces, and a restaurant on its lower floors, creating a mixed-use presence in downtown Rochester. This combination of functions draws both workers and visitors who contribute to the daily activity of the neighborhood.
The building is located at 280 East Broad Street and features eight elevators serving multiple tenants including office users and restaurant visitors. Access and circulation are straightforward due to the clear vertical transportation system throughout the structure.
The previous location housed the Top of the Plaza restaurant where jazz legends including Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, and Sarah Vaughn performed. This musical history remains part of the building's past even as its current uses have evolved.
