Bonfils Memorial Theatre

The Bonfils Memorial Theatre is a Streamline Moderne building in Capitol Hill that now houses a large bookstore. The structure displays cream-colored brick walls, buff terra cotta details, and red sandstone accents topped with a curved aluminum entrance canopy.

Helen Bonfils opened this 550-seat theater in 1953 to honor her parents, Frederick and Belle Bonfils. The building marked an important moment for Denver's cultural scene after decades without a major performance venue.

The venue served as a gathering place for Denver's arts community, hosting performances that drew audiences from across the region. Visitors to the bookstore today can still appreciate the original design elements that reflect the building's cultural role.
