Byrne's Ferry Covered Bridge is a wooden covered bridge built in 1862 in Calaveras County, California, spanning the Stanislaus River. It uses a timber truss frame and a protective roof, a design common for rural crossings of that era.
Before the bridge was built, travelers crossed the Stanislaus River by ferry and then by a chain cable bridge. The covered wooden structure replaced these crossings in 1862 and was registered as a California historical landmark in 1938.
The bridge is accessible via County Highway 48 and O'Byrne Ferry Road, near Copperopolis. Since it is a pedestrian crossing, wear sturdy shoes as the ground around it can be uneven.
Some literary historians believe the area around this bridge inspired Bret Harte's famous story set in Poker Flat. A plaque nearby still marks the location of the old O'Byrne Ferry landing.
