Esagila, Temple in Babylon
Esagila is a noted temple dedicated to Marduk, the protector god of Babylon.
This temple was said to have been completed by King Nebuchadnezzar II.
In Babylonian culture, Esagila was considered the center of religious and political life.
The exact location of Esagila is currently unknown as archaeological excavations turn inconclusive.
The Enuma Elish describes Marduk building Esagila himself.
