Iskandar Coastal Bridge, Modern arch bridge in Johor Bahru District, Malaysia
The Iskandar Coastal Bridge is a modern arch structure that spans the Skudai and Danga Rivers, connecting separate districts of Johor Bahru. The structure features distinctive steel arches and was designed to handle both vehicle and pedestrian traffic across its length.
Construction began in 2008 following a proposal from 2006 for a coastal highway route connecting Danga Bay and Nusajaya. The project emerged from plans to improve transportation between growing urban areas of the district.
The bridge symbolizes rapid urban expansion across the district, reshaping how residents move between formerly separate neighborhoods. It has become a visual marker of development that locals encounter in their daily journeys across the city.
The structure accommodates both cars and pedestrians, cutting travel time between Iskandar Puteri and downtown Johor Bahru significantly. Wide lanes and dedicated pedestrian paths on both sides make crossing straightforward during busy periods.
It is the second arch bridge of its kind in Johor Bahru, managed jointly by the Iskandar Region Development Authority and the Malaysian Public Works Department. This shared oversight reflects the structure's importance to regional development and infrastructure strategy.
