Merdeka Park

Merdeka Park is a green space in Johor Bahru featuring a central lake with water plants, walking trails, and multiple lawn areas. The grounds include an amphitheater, playgrounds, and exercise equipment for visitors.

The park was designed in the early 2000s and opened to the public in 2011 as a tribute to Malaysia's independence journey. Its creation marked an effort to commemorate the nation's path to sovereignty.

The nine lawn sections within the park each mark a different moment in Malaysia's independence movement. Walking through them, you notice how the layout tells this national story.

The park is well-equipped and easy to navigate, with paths connecting all areas. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and come early morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat.

An illuminated dancing fountain with color-changing lights puts on evening displays of water movement and light. A lookout tower also allows visitors to see the surrounding area from above.
