Lake Engolasters, lake in Andorra
Lake Engolasters is a natural body of water in Encamp municipality at around 7,900 feet (2,400 meters) elevation in the Pyrenees. The water sits surrounded by coniferous forests in a broad valley floor, with the lake itself appearing relatively shallow and showing clear water.
The Engolasters area was settled by early inhabitants of the valley because of its forests and water access. Over the centuries, the region remained important to local people for resource gathering and livelihood.
The lake's name comes from the forests surrounding it, which local communities have relied on for generations. Today, it serves as a gathering place where hikers and anglers share the quiet of the mountains.
The lake is reachable via a hiking trail that climbs from the valley and is passable most of the year. Visitors should bring sturdy footwear and supplies, as the elevation and mountain terrain can be physically demanding.
The lake is fed by underground springs flowing from the higher mountains, which gives it its exceptional clarity. This geological feature makes it one of the cleanest bodies of water in the region.
