Ajman, Coastal city in United Arab Emirates.
Ajman is a city on the Persian Gulf coast in the United Arab Emirates, stretching along several kilometers of waterfront. The territory borders mostly the emirate of Sharjah and forms one of the smaller urban areas in the country.
Modern governance began in 1816 when Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi took control from the Al Bu Shamis Nuaimi tribe. This foundation set the structure for how the emirate is administered today.
The name of the city originates from the Arabic word 'ajman', referring to the Persian inhabitants who settled in this region centuries ago.
The free zone offers a central point for companies operating in the northern emirates. Visitors will find public areas along the coast with access to beaches and cafés.
The emirate consists of three separate geographical parts even though it is the smallest in the United Arab Emirates. Besides the main coastal area, both Al-Manamah and the mountainous Masfut belong to the territory.
