Al Thuqeibah

Al Thuqeibah is an archaeological site near Al Madam containing several residential structures and a water well from the Iron Age. The location sits on a natural mountain crossing in the Hajar range, where researchers have uncovered remains from people who lived here thousands of years ago.

Archaeological teams from the Autonomous University of Madrid conducted excavations in the 1990s, uncovering settlement remains dating from 1100 to 400 BC. These discoveries showed that the region was continuously inhabited over a long period.

The settlement shows evidence of livestock raising and hunting, with numerous arrowheads and bronze tools indicating different economic activities. These findings suggest that people here lived closely connected to using the natural resources of the surrounding mountain landscape.

The grounds sit in a mountain area with natural access via the Hajar Pass. Visitors should be prepared for elevation and possible weather conditions, as the site is outdoors and can only be explored during stable weather.

Despite its inland location, archaeological findings show that residents consumed large quantities of sea fish. This suggests that established trade routes connected this remote mountain community with coastal areas.
