Al Zahra Hospital, Medical center in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Al Zahra Hospital is a medical facility in Dubai with specialized departments, seven operating theaters, and capacity for 137 patient beds. The building spans a substantial area with systematically organized sections for patient care and support functions.
The project began in 1975 as a hotel development but was redesigned in 1978 by architects Karani and Sanghoi Associates as a hospital instead. This change in purpose led to a complete rethinking of how the building would function.
The building incorporates thoughtfully designed green courtyards and water features into its layout. These design choices shape how visitors and patients experience the space while moving through the facility.
The complex features generous public areas with hallways that look directly onto gardens and water features, making it easy to find your way around. The design helps visitors feel oriented while benefiting from the calming green spaces throughout.
The building features single-loaded glazed corridors that open onto the gardens on one side, creating an unusual bridge between hospital functions and outdoor green spaces. This design choice makes the usual clinical environment feel more connected to nature.
