St. Michael's Church, Berat

The church structure features red brick rows combined with stone walls, crowned by a dome resting on a cylindrical drum without internal supports.

Built in January 1301, St. Michael's Church represents a significant period of architectural advancement in medieval Albanian religious construction techniques.

The building maintains elements of Byzantine architectural design, demonstrated through its cruciform plan and the integration of stepped arches at window niches.

From May to October, visitors can access the church between 09:00 and 17:00 through a 10-minute uphill walk on the Hermit's Path.

The church stands on a steep rock formation outside the Kalaja district, offering views across the Osum River through its strategically placed windows.
