Kapllan Pasha Tomb, Ottoman monument in central Tirana, Albania
Kapllan Pasha Tomb is an octagonal structure with eight stone columns rising about 13 feet (4 meters) high, each topped with ornate capitals. The building displays classic Ottoman construction techniques and stands among contemporary structures in the city center.
Built in 1817, the structure was part of a larger burial ground beside the city's first mosque. The cemetery was later lost, but the tomb itself has survived into the present day.
The tomb bears the name of the pasha who held power in the city, and carved inscriptions on the stones speak to his status. Visitors today can observe the craftsmanship of the stonework and understand how such structures were built and honored.
The tomb is located along Rruga 28 Nëntori street in the city center and is easily reached on foot. Visitors can approach it year-round without any advance preparation needed.
The tomb itself is empty, as the pasha's remains were transferred to Istanbul long ago. Yet it remains as an architectural record of Ottoman rule in Albania and shows how significant this person was to the city's past.
