Bunk’Art 2, Cold War museum in central Tirana, Albania
Bunk'Art 2 is a museum housed in an underground bunker beneath the Ministry of Internal Affairs in central Tirana. The subterranean structure spans 24 rooms totaling roughly 1,000 square meters (10,800 square feet) of former nuclear shelter space.
The bunker was constructed between 1981 and 1986 during Enver Hoxha's rule and was known as Objekti Shtylla. It remained closed to the public until 2015 when it reopened as a museum.
The museum displays the history of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Sigurimi secret police through art installations and recreated period rooms. These exhibits help visitors understand daily life under constant surveillance and fear.
Entry is accessed from Sermedin Toptani Street and the museum maintains different opening hours on various days. Visitors should prepare for uneven floors and tight corridors since it is an underground facility.
The entrance dome shows visible damage from attacks by citizens after the fall of communism. These marks were deliberately preserved by curators as a testament to that moment of upheaval.
