Sylejman Pasha Mosque, Ottoman mosque in Tirana, Albania
The Sylejman Pasha Mosque features a central dome structure with a minaret that rises above the surrounding buildings in central Tirana.
Built in 1614 by Sulejman Bargjini after his return from Persian campaigns, this religious building marked the foundation of Tirana as a settlement.
The mosque served as a gathering place for the Islamic community until 1945, when it was demolished during the political changes in Albania.
The original location of the mosque can be reached by following the main boulevard from Skanderbeg Square towards the north of Tirana.
The construction included additional facilities such as a hammam and bakery, which formed the initial nucleus of what would become modern Tirana.
