Dajti National Park, National park in Skanderbeg Mountains, Albania
Dajti National Park is a protected mountain area just east of Tirana, covering limestone ridges, beech and pine forests, and open meadows at different elevations. The terrain rises across several peaks and valleys, giving the park a varied character as you move through it.
The park was established in 1966 as part of a national effort to protect natural areas across Albania. The mountains had long supplied nearby communities with timber and water before being designated a protected zone.
The park is a favorite weekend spot for families from Tirana who come to walk, eat outdoors, and enjoy cooler air. Small restaurants and grill spots near the upper cable car station serve local food to day visitors throughout the warmer months.
A cable car runs from Tirana up to the upper part of the park, making it easy to reach without a car. From the top station, walking paths of different lengths spread into the park, so you can choose a route that suits your pace.
A reservoir in the northern part of the park supplies Tirana with drinking water and has shaped a canyon with steep limestone cliffs around it. Most visitors never reach this area, even though it looks very different from the forested slopes that make up most of the park.
