Tsakhats Kar Monastery, Medieval monastery in Artabuynk, Armenia
The monastery complex consists of two groups of buildings made from rough basalt, situated 200 meters apart along the Yeghegis River slopes.
The monastery dates back to the 10th century during the Bagratid Kingdom, with construction occurring between 984 and 1029 as documented by historian Asoghik.
The architectural ensemble includes Saint Karapet Church with its dome-shaped roof and Saint Hovhannes Church, both displaying traditional Armenian stone craftsmanship.
The religious site requires a 6-kilometer trek from Artabuynk village, with hiking equipment necessary for the mountainous terrain and variable weather conditions.
The monastery functioned as an educational institution where painting techniques were taught, leading to its name which translates to flowered stone in Armenian.
