Haghpat Monastery, Medieval monastery complex in Haghpat, Armenia.
The monastery consists of multiple churches, chapels, and a three-story bell tower built between the 10th and 13th centuries in Armenian architectural style.
Queen Khosrovanuysh founded Haghpat Monastery in 976, constructing the Cathedral of Surb Nshan with its central dome supported by four stone pillars.
The monastery functioned as a center for theological studies and manuscript production, housing numerous religious texts and educational materials during medieval times.
Visitors can reach Haghpat Monastery by taking a three-and-a-half-hour drive from Yerevan, covering approximately 165 kilometers through the Armenian countryside.
The monastery houses the Amenaprkich khachkar from 1273 and contains the hand of Apostle Bartholomew, obtained during the 1260 Siege of Mayyafariqin.

These European monasteries and religious structures display architecture from medieval to modern times. The buildings showcase different architectural styles and occupy notable geographic locations: on islands, mountain peaks, or among lavender fields. Many of these monasteries remain active religious centers today.
Armenia's historical and natural sites showcase a rich heritage. Medieval monasteries like Tatev and Geghard overlook mountain valleys. Ancient temples include Garni and the cathedral of Echmiadzin. The country has high-altitude fortresses, prehistoric caves, and notable geological formations such as the Debed Canyon. Lake Sevan and national parks complement this region between mountains and valleys, marked by religious history and traditional architecture.
