Achqasar, Mountain summit in Shirak Province, Armenia
Achqasar is a mountain summit in the Javakheti range of the Lesser Caucasus, reaching approximately 3200 meters in elevation. It stands within Shirak Province and occupies terrain marked by alpine meadows and exposed rocky slopes.
The mountain formed through volcanic activity during the Quaternary period, creating a lava cone that defines the landscape. This geological origin has shaped the structure visible today.
Mount Achkasar stands as a central feature of Lake Arpi National Park, drawing visitors from surrounding regions for outdoor exploration and nature photography.
The climb starts from Paghaghbyur village along a demanding trail spanning about 21 kilometers through alpine meadows to reach the summit. Bring sturdy hiking boots and weather-resistant gear, as conditions at the top are windy and cold.
The mountain feeds two important water sources: the Mtnadzor stream flows on its northeastern side while the Yotaghbyur spring emerges on the western face. Both provide essential water to the surrounding region.
