Founded in 1934 to replace the outdated Hospital de la Almudena, this institution received its name from the Cusco physician Antonio Lorena Rozas.
The hospital entrance displays a biblical inscription about loving God and neighbors, reflecting the religious values of the Peruvian community.
The medical facility currently operates from temporary quarters at Hospital de Contingencias while awaiting completion of its modernization project.
The original hospital building earned UNESCO World Heritage status in 1983 as part of the historic center of Cusco.
