The Teatro Municipal del Cusco is located on Meson de la Estrella street and features a facade sourced from the colonial-era San Andrés Hospital. The venue contains seating for approximately 771 people and functions as a performance space for concerts and cultural events.

The building was constructed in 1933 originally as a cinema called Cinema Italia and later converted to Cinema Teatro Colón. In 1992 it became the municipal theatre under management by the Regional Cultural Directorate.

The theatre is named after Daniel Estrada Pérez, the Cusco mayor whose administration inaugurated it, and it serves as the main stage of the Cusco Symphony Orchestra. Despite the word "municipal" in its name, it is run by the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Cusco Regional Government, not the provincial municipality.

The venue is easiest to access when you know it is managed by the Regional Cultural Directorate rather than the municipal government. Checking the current programme in advance ensures you will find an active performance or event during your visit.

The portal over the entrance is not original to the cinema: it was the doorway of the 17th-century Hospital Colonial de San Andrés, rescued and moved here from the hospital's old plot further southeast on San Andrés street.
