Wayna Tawqaray, Archaeological site in San Sebastian District, Peru
The stone structures of Wayna Tawqaray stand at an elevation of 3,600 meters on the slope of Tawqaray mountain, southeast of Cusco center.
Archaeological evidence indicates that Wayna Tawqaray functioned as both a residential and ceremonial complex during the height of the Inca Empire.
The name derives from Quechua language, where 'wayna' translates to young man and 'tawqaray' refers to a gathering or accumulation.
Access to the site requires permits from local tourist offices, and visitors should arrange transportation through guides or private vehicles.
Agricultural terraces surrounding the archaeological remains demonstrate the advanced farming methods developed by ancient Andean civilizations.
