Alejandro Villanueva Stadium, Association football stadium in La Victoria, Peru
Alejandro Villanueva Stadium is a football venue with four partially sunken stands accessible directly from street level and holds approximately 34,000 spectators. The grounds sit in the heart of the La Victoria district in Lima.
The venue acquired its land in 1951 and construction began in 1969, with the official opening taking place on December 27, 1974 against Nacional Montevideo. This marked an important milestone for Lima's sports infrastructure during that era.
The stadium was named in 2000 after a legendary Peruvian footballer who played for Alianza Lima and the national team during the 1920s and 1930s. This choice links the venue to an important figure in the country's sporting past.
The venue is best reached using the Metropolitano bus line, which stops at Estadio Nacional station, followed by a short walk through the neighborhood. The grounds are straightforward to navigate once you arrive at the area.
The facility was an early adopter of comprehensive video monitoring, installing one of Peru's first large-scale CCTV systems with over 50 cameras at a sports venue. This set new standards for security at sporting events throughout the country.
