History
The district became independent in 1920 after separating from neighboring areas. The textile industry took root following the founding of the Santa Catalina Fabric Factory in 1889.

The Nuestra Señora de las Victorias church anchors Plaza Manco Capac as a gathering space for residents. The adjacent Alejandro Villanueva Stadium draws crowds when Alianza Lima plays, connecting the district to football culture.
