La Victoria, Commercial district in Lima, Peru
La Victoria is a commercial district in Lima that combines residential neighborhoods with business areas. The Gamarra sector holds numerous textile workshops and retail stores that make this area central to clothing manufacturing and distribution.
The district became independent in 1920 after separating from neighboring areas. The textile industry took root following the founding of the Santa Catalina Fabric Factory in 1889.
The Nuestra Señora de las Victorias church anchors Plaza Manco Capac as a gathering space for residents. The adjacent Alejandro Villanueva Stadium draws crowds when Alianza Lima plays, connecting the district to football culture.
The district is best explored on foot, especially the Gamarra sector with its compact shops and workshops. Most businesses remain active during weekdays for retail shopping.
The Calvetti House displays an extraordinarily long balcony that runs along its front side. This 1924 structure represents a striking architectural choice for its era.
