Huaca Santa Catalina

Huaca Santa Catalina is an archaeological site with adobe structures and ancient walls showing construction from pre-Columbian times in the Rimac Valley. The buildings display different layers and sections that reveal how people built and organized spaces many centuries ago.

The site developed as a ceremonial center for the Ichma culture during the Late Intermediate Period. Later the Inca expanded their influence through the region and incorporated the location into their administration.

The excavated objects reveal what people in this ancient valley used in their daily lives and how they made things. Pottery fragments, textiles, and tools show the practical skills and habits of those early communities.

The site is located within the city and can be reached by following street directions to the address. Visitors should allow time to walk through the different sections and view the structures at a comfortable pace.

The site preserves segments of the ancient Inca road network that once connected the empire across vast distances. These sections of that historic route remain visible within the modern city environment.
