Castillo Rospigliosi, Gothic Revival castle in Santa Beatriz, Lima, Peru

Castillo Rospigliosi is a light-coloured Gothic Revival building on Manuel del Pino Street in Santa Beatriz, its walls laid in a stone-block pattern. A central section rises into a multi-tiered tower topped by a small figure, flanked by two conical spires, with a row of crenellations and arched windows below. A blocky wing on the right carries a cylindrical turret near its top corner, above a framed arched window.

The palace was constructed in 1929 during the government of Augusto B. Leguía by Carlos Rospigliosi Vigil, a physician descended from an Italian family. Its construction took place during a period when Lima was rapidly modernizing and incorporating European architectural styles into the city.

The castle carries the name of Carlos Rospigliosi Vigil, the physician from an Italian-descended family who commissioned it. Since 2014 it has housed the Museo Aeronáutico del Perú, which gathers relics, replicas, photographs and documents on national and world aeronautical history, including items linked to pilots Jorge Chávez, Pedro Paulet and José Abelardo Quiñones and a room on the Alto Cenepa war.

The building is located on Manuel del Pino Street in the Santa Beatriz district and operates as the headquarters of the Air War Academy, with portions open to visitors. It is advisable to check visiting hours in advance since it functions as a military institution with restricted access to certain areas.

The original designs included a moat and drawbridge because a visit from Spanish King Alfonso XIII was anticipated, though the visit never occurred. These unrealized defensive features reveal the ambitious character of the initial design and the European aspirations of its builders.
