Huancabamba Province

Huancabamba Province occupies mountainous terrain in the northwestern part of Peru, encompassing eight districts across its landscape. The region features varied elevations and valleys where local communities have settled and built their towns.

The province was created in 1861 as an administrative division in the Piura region. It developed along pathways that once connected pre-Columbian settlements throughout the Andean area.

The eight districts of Huancabamba Province maintain agricultural traditions through the cultivation of coffee and fruits in the fertile mountain valleys.

This region is accessible by regular bus services from major cities within Piura, with routes crossing mountain roads. Visitors should prepare for changing weather conditions at elevation and wear appropriate clothing for the climate.

San Miguel de El Faique district houses the Megalithic Sanctuary of Lagunas, where ancient stone structures remain scattered across the mountain landscape. These remains draw attention from visitors interested in the region's archaeological past.
