Inka Tampu, Cajamarca

Inka Tampu is an archaeological settlement in the Tamshiyacu Valley made up of stone structures that span a large area. Rectangular buildings connect through narrow pathways, with terraced farming areas spreading across the slopes.

This settlement served as a key point along the Inca road network during the 15th century. The location helped connect distant regions for both trade and administrative control across the empire.

The layout of this site shows how the Inca organized their daily life in this location. Separate zones reveal where people lived, where food was stored, and where important ceremonies took place.

A four-wheel drive vehicle is needed to reach this site from Cajamarca city, and local guides are available in the nearby town of Pomahuaca. Having a guide with local knowledge makes navigation much easier and safer.

This location sits at the crossing point of mountain paths in the region. From here, visitors can explore both highland and valley archaeological features during a single visit.
