Museo de Sitio Túcume, Archaeological museum at the foot of Cerro Purgatorio, Lambayeque, Peru.
Museo de Sitio Túcume is an archaeological museum located at the foot of Cerro Purgatorio in the Lambayeque region. It houses artifacts found within a complex of 26 pyramids, with the exhibition space built among the ancient structures themselves.
The museum was established in 1992 to house discoveries from excavations conducted between 1989 and 1994. These findings span the Lambayeque, Chimu, and Inca periods, showing how the site was occupied across different eras.
The exhibits display metalwork, textiles, and ceremonial objects created across different pre-Columbian periods. You can see how ancient artisans expressed their skills and beliefs through these carefully made items.
The museum can be visited daily through self-guided routes that wind through the site and around the pyramids. Bring comfortable shoes and water since much of your visit will be spent outdoors in the open sun.
The collection includes jewelry discovered in the Tomb of the Lord of Tucume during early 1990s excavations. These pieces are among the museum's most valuable objects and show the craftsmanship of the ancient elite.
