The Royal Tombs of Sipan Museum, Archaeological museum in Lambayeque, Peru

The museum displays gold items, jewelry, and ceremonial objects from Moche burial sites uncovered in the northern part of the country. The collection spans several floors and follows a thematic route from upper levels downward.

Researchers uncovered the tomb of a Moche ruler near the town of Sipán in 1987 and found an extraordinary collection of valuable items inside. The museum opened in 2002 to preserve these findings and make them accessible to the public.

The building takes its shape from old Moche temples and displays five large geometric forms on the outside, echoing the insignia found inside the tomb. The interior route descends level by level, allowing visitors to retrace the experience of entering the original burial chamber.

The building sits roughly ten minutes north of Chiclayo and opens daily from 9 AM to 5 PM. The route covers several levels, so comfortable footwear is advisable and visitors should plan enough time for the full tour.

The façade uses red and yellow, the two main colors of the Moche civilization, giving the building a warm and earthy appearance. The roof rises in slanted planes and resembles a truncated pyramid.
