Bosques Nublados de Udima Wildlife Refuge

The protected area spans 12,183 hectares across the regions of Cajamarca and Lambayeque, featuring dense forests at elevations between 2,000 and 3,000 meters.

The Peruvian government established this natural reserve on October 21, 2011, following its previous designation as the Reserved Zone of Udima in 2010.

The refuge borders the Zaña River valley, which contains pre-Columbian archaeological sites and irrigation canals dating back to 3400 BCE.

SERNANP manages the refuge, requiring visitors to obtain permits and follow specific guidelines to protect the natural environment and its inhabitants.

The low elevation of the Andes near this location allows Amazon rainforest species to thrive on the western slopes, creating an unusual ecological intersection.
