Conjunto monumental de Belén, Colonial religious complex in Cajamarca, Peru
The complex comprises a baroque church with an elaborate stone facade, two former hospitals, and a cemetery spread across half a block.
Construction of the religious compound began in 1699 with the men's hospital, followed by the church which took fifty years to complete.
The interior displays carved polychromatic figures of angels and warriors, along with a cupola supported by eight cherubs painted by indigenous artists.
The site operates Monday and Wednesday through Friday from 9 AM to 6 PM, with entrance fees at 7.50 soles including access to El Cuarto de Rescate.
The former men's hospital now functions as a medical museum while the women's hospital houses archaeological and ethnological collections.
