El Gorosito, Oil worker monument in Caleta Olivia, Argentina.
El Gorosito is a yellow-painted steel monument standing 13 meters tall, depicting a worker with an exposed chest operating a valve at an oil well. The figure stands at the intersection of six major avenues in the center of Caleta Olivia.
Construction of the monument began in 1969, during a period when the tallest building in Caleta Olivia was only 4 meters high. It marked a turning point in how the oil city expressed its industrial identity.
The monument displays plaques dedicated to oil pioneers and workers who lost their lives in the industry. These inscriptions connect visitors to the personal stories behind the city's economic growth.
The monument sits at a central intersection in the heart of the city and serves as a key orientation point for visitors. The location is easily accessible and clearly visible from the surrounding streets.
During the official inauguration, workers installed only the pants section first, completing the upper body installation two days later in front of about 600 spectators. This unusual phased approach made the assembly itself part of the celebration.
